The Baltic American Chamber of Commerce (BACC) Met Contemporary European Furniture Design and Manufacturing Companies from the Baltic States and Finland
On May 22, 2018, the Baltic American Chamber of Commerce (BACC) in partnership with the Consulate General of Lithuania in New York, Enterprise Lithuania and in association with the Finnish American Chamber of Commerce New York, organized a networking event for seven contemporary European furniture design and manufacturing companies from the Baltic States and Finland.
EMKO, Jot.Jot, and Sedes Regia, from Lithuania presented their outstanding and award-winning designs. In 2017, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) presented Jot.Jot the NYCxDesign award for best new accessory for their MUDU free-standing mirror. In 2018, Jot.Jot again received the coveted NYCxDesign award for their Baba addition seating system (see below).
The Estonian company WOH brought samples of their outstanding the WOH Felt Hanger which acts as a flagship of their designs. WOH Felt Hanger features a non-slippery surface made out of PET felt that consists of up to 70% of recycled plastics and a stainless steel hook.
One of the oldest manufacturers of solid surface materials in Europe, Finland company DURAT introduced itself and proudly noted that they have a manufactory in the U.S. Maiju Uski, the founder of a design company STUDIO Maiju Uski provided pictorial brochures of their clean products. Maiju’s design reflects the best way to create beautiful, usable and sustainable designs by using and combining different materials in everyday products and furnishings.
All of the participating countries and companies found the networking event beneficial. Heikki Karppinen, DURAT CEO personally thanked the BACC’s the invitation and remarked “It was very interesting and I also made good contacts!”. Finland designer, Maiju Uski stated “The event was very nice and warm and also beneficial. I met some very nice people and made good connections.” “We are here to help you and are pleased to work with you to bring your outstanding and cutting edge designs to the U.S. market”, expressed Inga Klimasauskiene, the head of the BACC.
