The Olympic Gold Medalist Ruta Meilutyte was welcomed in New York
On February 11, 2019, the Lithuanian born swimmer and Olympic gold medalist, Ruta Meilutyte was warmly welcomed at the Consulate General of Lithuania in New York. Ruta openly imparted her life’s story and personal challenges along the swimmer’s journey.
Ruta began swimming at age five. In 2010, at just 13 years old, Ruta broke her first Lithuanian swimming record in both the women’s 50 meter and 100 meter breaststroke. In 2012, at the age of 15, she had already broken eleven Lithuanian women’s swimming records and at the Olympic Games in London her gold medal in the 100m breaststroke made her Lithuania's youngest Olympic champion in any sport. Currently Ruta trains and lives in Los Angeles, California.
On February 12, 2019 at the Scandinavian House in New York, Ruta will present her self titled documentary film Ruta and this will be the unique opportunity to meet her. Viewers will witness the story of Ruta’s childhood, the path to the Olympic gold medal in London and other unknown details of her life.
