Jewish Heritage and Tourism in the Baltics
On Wednesday, November 9th, 2022 the Baltic American Chamber of Commerce (BACC) board member Elliot Matz had the pleasure of attending an event titled Jewish Heritage and Tourism in the Baltics, and enjoyed Litvak food prepared by Mrs. Ruta Paulauskiene, private chef and spouse of the Lithuanian Ambassador to the United Nations. The event was hosted by the Consulate General of Lithuania in New York and the National Tourism Development Agency Lithuania Travel, and was introduced by Lithuanian Consul general, Vaclovas Salkauskas. Speakers included Irena Achonen, and Lithuanian heritage travel expert Vilija Malinauskaite of TravelDeli.
The group of attendees learned about opportunities for Lithuanian travel that can encompass learning both about Lithuania’s complex cultural history, and about how Lithuania’s Jewish cultural history was embedded into that. A savory tasting of a range of Litvak food selections was thoroughly enjoyed by all. In addition, attendees participated in enthusiastic interchange about Lithuanian travel, history and culture.
BACC attends and contributes to events such as these in order to promote tourism, cross-cultural understanding and discussion of business opportunities in order to be better able to advance business ventures between the Baltic States and the US.
