Latvia's Oscar nomination for 2018 Best Foreign Language Film

Shot over the course of two years, this documentary by acclaimed Baltic director Ivars Seleckis follows seven children in various parts of the country, all at the intersection of various historical, social, and economic processes. Among them are Kārlis, who lives in the countryside; Gleb, whose grandparents are part of the Russian-speaking minority who arrived in the country during the Soviet era; Zane, whose family has always lived in an urban environment; Anastasija, whose family has instead chosen to live far from the city; and little Anete, whose mother lives and works in the UK.

Director Ivars Seleckis is the oldest actively working documentary filmmaker in Latvia. His filmography bridges the modern day with the history of the Latvian documentary tradition, and his documentaries are noted for their thorough and sophisticated analysis of social processes.

Runtime 95 min. In Latvian with English subtitles.
